Mini review: names

In the Name Jar by Yang sook Choi, Unhei’s name is important because she remembers Korea and her grandma. In the beginning she wanted to be the same as the Americans. In the end she realized it’s good to have the name you were born with.

In My Name Is Maria Isabel by Alma Flor Ada, Maria Isabel’s name is important because it her family in her name. When her teacher calls her Mary, she can’t pay attention because she does not recognize the name.

In Becoming Naomi Leon by Pam Munoz Ryan, Naomi’s name is important because it ties her to whole family. Her middle name, Soledad, is the name of the fisherman Sant and her dad is a fisherman. Her last name Leon means lion in Spanish. she goes to Mexico and leans to be braver and stronger.
