In the book Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin, Minli wants to change her family’s fortune, so she travels to Never-Ending Mountain to see the Old Man of the Moon. She wants to change her fortune so Fruitless Mountain will be green and her family will have more money.
Telling stories is repeated, again and again, in the whole book. Stories make the book more fun. They are interesting. The stories make everything in the book connect for the reader. The story with happy people and the seed rain from the moon connects with the Old Man of the Moon. The first story in the book about Fruitless Mountain introduces the surroundings. Minli leaves after she hears a story about the Old Man of the Moon, who maybe could teach her to change her fortune.
The contrast in the book it is when Ma tells stories to pass the time in the end. In the beginning she said stories were nonsense and did not help with anything. But in the end Minli was gone and there were no stories so it felt like something was missing without stories.
In the book, Minli hears words of the wiser. She meets many wise people: Ba, a goldfish, and the Old Man of the Moon. Ba says stories cost nothing. The goldfish tells her how to get to Never-Ending Mountain. The Old Man of the Moon says he will answer one question, and that is wise because Minli choose her friend Dragon’s question. That was good because everything turned out good in the end. She realized that changing her fortune did not matter but Dragon needed a question answered more than she needed her question answered. He did not have a family, and he needed to be like other dragons. She cared about him first.
It was a fun story because it all fit together. I liked the ending. Someday I’ll read it again. You should read this book!
Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo is called Because of Winn-Dixie because it tells of the things that happened because Winn-Dixie, a dog, came into Opal’s life.
The first thing was that Opal found Winn-Dixie. Opal was lonely. She just had moved to a new town, and she had no friends and now she had Winn-Dixie.
Winn-Dixie helped Opal find friends. She met Miss Franny the librarian and Miss Franny was now friends with Opal because Winn-Dixie looked like a bear, and she remembered a time when a bear came in the library. Miss Franny needed a friend too because she was lonely.
Opal also met Otis, the pet store worker. They became friends when Winn-Dixie needed a collar, but it was too much money, so Opal decided to work there. Otis needed a friend because he was lonely since getting out of prison.
One day when Opal was biking with Winn-Dixie and Winn-Dixie ran to the “witch’s” home, she met Gloria Dump and they become close friends. Gloria cooked and Opal read to her. Gloria Dump needed a friend too because she was old.
I liked this book because it has a good lesson about friends.

Plate tectonics change the earth’s surface. Dry lands used to be seas. Mountains used to be deserts or oceans. Volcanos are formed from plate tectonics boundaries. When magma comes to the surface, it makes a volcano. When magma comes to the surface, it becomes lava. The earth is changed with these volcanoes.

Collections are fun to keep. People collect lots of things. Some things cost money. But collecting rocks is absolutely free! All you have to do is start by keeping your eyes open when you are in a new place. If you want rocks from faraway places, you can trade with people around the world. It’s important to have records. The records you should have are where you got it, the date, and what type of rock you think it is. Now all you have to do is find a rock and start your collection!

Soil is more than pieces of rock. Soil has things that used to be living. The organic soil has dead bugs and dead leaves. Inorganic means never alive. The inorganic soil has mud, clay, and rocks. Dead things are recycled. That means rich soil and more living things. This is an amazing way earth recycles.
This is just to say but this was by far my favorite one to make!!!!!

I have eaten

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The lord god made them all. Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their little wings.
is a meadow
after a snowfall
that a poem
hopes to cross
When I was down beside the sea
A wooden spade they gave to me
To dig the sandy shore.
My holes were empty like a cup.
In every hole the sea came up
Till it could come no more.
This year for Language Arts, I am learning a poem every week or two.
The fog comes
on little cat feet.It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
